Its a bit...

Narcissistic to think that all problems can be fixed by fixing yourself.
If we are all fundamentally flawed, then how can you even begin to think you can fix anything?
But then if you travel down that road of thought, it turns into a winding path of self destruction, because you do realize you cant fix yourself anyway (because your fundamentally flawed) and why bother?

So if we are flawed, why?
Im still leaning towards the idea that man is flawed for two reasons:
1. need for self preservation
2. need for gratification
(and really, isnt one synonomis with the other when you take into account societal constraints and labels?)

Something I read recently seemed to point out that children lie. All children lie. (I guess thats an absolute, sorry Ms. Freeman). Does that really mean we are inherently flawed? Because anyone who has been around kids, know that they also give unconditional love. Perhaps, inside we really are two wolves fighting for power, so to speak....

Case in point...Read this...

An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. "A fight is going on inside me," he said to the boy.

"It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil - he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego." He continued, "The other is good - he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you - and inside every other person, too."

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, "Which wolf will win?"

The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."
