This one is one of my favorites, also by my dad Greg High. This one gives me chills and after visiting several of the many places the vikings murdered the monks in Ireland, I have a new sense of the terror and fear they must have felt.
The Vikings are coming...
The vikings are coming, did you pray today Brother?
Their dragon heads glare at us through the thick morning fog.
To the round tower, make haste, one foot after another.
Grab some food, grab some water , grab the dog!
The Vikings are coming, did you pray today brother?
They are burning the village, they are sacking the town.
Quickly! Bar the door, shut the gate, help one another.
The smoke is as thick as the fear I try to hold down.
The Vikings are coming, did you pray today Brother?
They are battering the door, they are pushing it in!
To the top of the tower, to out last place of cover.
Without the Lords help, the devils will win.
The Vikings are coming, did you pray today Brother?
They are climbing the stairs, they come for our blood.
Let us knees and pray to our Holy Mother.
For soon we shall return to the dust and the mud.
The Vikings are here, did you pray today, Brother?
